The classroom is equipped with an integrated suite of vessel navigation electronics including gps, chartplotter and autopilot. There is also a pc based electronic chart plotting system and radar and dsc radio simulators.
A pair of full function dsc training radios allow for full 2 way communication without transmitting to the outside world.
One of the benefits of learning this way is that the equipment is switched on all day every day for the duration of the course and available for anyone to use outside classroom hours. This is probably a very good way of getting familiar with the equipment under no pressure and with support available if help is required.
The principal is a commercially endorsed Yachtmaster who has been sailing for over 20 years. He also is a chartered engineer who held senior engineering and management positions in the electronic navigation equipment industry for 10 years. This experience included involvement in the direction future equipment should take within the industry and with official bodies and the press.
